IE hasLayout Bug Explanation
Microsoft has put out a pretty good (and enjoyably self-implicative) reference on a lot of the bugs/quirks that IE6 suffers from currently. They mention their collaborators in their blog post as well as at the bottom of the guide. I'm relieved to see this continuing trend of community involvement from the IE devs, but my cynicism forces me to remain cautious.

He lives!!!

Not that I'm the very model of a modern major web-logger.

Yeah, after I left my camera in Mexico, I lost the will to post anything here. This actually started out as a quick email to my friend (which I often send as I run across things), so I decided to post it here, here, and here, and here. Maybe this is my blogging rebirth?

i'm incredibly relieved that they're actually working on this shit for IE7. for awhile it seemed certain they were going to ignore it.

Yeah, but they have said that IE7 will not pass the acid 2 test out of the gates. Which is kind of disheartening. In my mind, if you're going to fix something, fix it to the best of your ability. Make it as close standards compliant as you possibly can, then release it. I know it's not easy, but that will be a huge leap forward for web devs.

oh i agree completely. but the fact that they're making any progress is a good thing, and much more than i expected. after all, they're microsoft. ;]

hell, i think IE7 might almost render my website correctly.

Yeah, which is kind of what my first post was about, If you go through the IEBlog, there's a lot of new and suspicious "community love." I agree though, almost any level standards support is better than IE6 standards support. I also would like to see some CSS3 support from both Mozilla and Microsoft so that we can start using it in development.

i agree. mozilla's been adding support very gradually. firefox 1.5 will support some nice new selectors that can be very useful, for example.

Yeah, like nth-child support is long overdue and should be on the top priority list of browser features. There's a lot of stuff I wish I could use now, but we have to design with the tools we have not what we wish we had.
